The primary mission of Texas State Galleries is to advance education, critical inquiry, and public engagement through contemporary art. As an integral part of Texas State University’s academic and cultural life, the Galleries provides opportunities for students to encounter artistic practices and perspectives beyond the classroom while connecting the university with the broader community.

Through ambitious exhibitions and interdisciplinary public programs, TXST Galleries introduces audiences to emerging and established artists, encourages dialogue across disciplines, and creates opportunities for direct engagement with contemporary art. The Galleries also serves an important regional role by providing access to artistic practices and ideas not always readily available in San Marcos and the surrounding region—locally grounded, nationally engaged, and participating in broader global conversations.

Located within the School of Art and Design in the Joann Cole Mitte Building, TXST Galleries encompasses more than 3,000 square feet of museum-quality exhibition space. Its exhibitions and events throughout the academic year feature contemporary artists, including Texas State faculty, students, and alumni, fostering connections between artistic practice, academic inquiry, and the issues of our time.
